Avec Stupid car, il s’agit de la seconde chanson traitant du danger de conduire, il y en aura d’autres par la suite… La peur des voitures chez Thom, abordée dans cette chanson, comme dans plusieurs autres, a une origine ancienne, notamment un accident quand il avait 17 ans, dont il ne s’est pas vraiment remis :

La chanson a été jouée pour la première fois en live le 2 avril 1993, en Israël.

En 1993-1994, Thom joue régulièrement la chanson seul à la guitare, comme ici au Club Citta de Kawasaki le 6 juin 1994. Il faut dire que le thème lui est très personnel.

C’est d’ailleurs dans une version acoustique (Cabaret Metro, juin 1993) que la chanson apparaît pour la première fois sur les singles et Eps du groupe :

Le groupe a enregistré quelques pistes en vue du prochain album. Thom a fait le tri sur une K7 et placé en en face A les pistes qui pourraient être sur l’album, en face-B le reste… Killer Cars est en face-A !

La dernière version est souvent la moins connue, il s’agit de celle que l’on appelle la version Mogadon. on la trouve sur le maxi de Just. Plus lente, cette version a été enregistrée avec un clavier.

Avant de jouer la chanson à la radio, Thom confirme que le groupe n’a pas réussi à se mettre d’accord sur la meilleure version de la chanson… c’est d’ailleurs pour ça qu’elle ne figure pas sur un album.
