Radiohead ne dit rien de la chanson, mais elle doit être en gestation puisque des bribes de paroles traînent sur la nouvelle version du site radiohead.com, incompréhensibles à l’époque…

Un passage du journal qu’Ed tient pendant l’enregistrement du futur album laisse penser que le groupe a travaillé quelque peu la chanson :

I Froze Up ne figure pas sur KID A, ni sur Amnesiac. Mais fin 2000, à la sortie de KID A, on peut constater qu’un dessin du livret (griffonné par Thom) fait furieusement penser aux paroles de la chanson :

Radiohead décide de performer une webcast. Comme toujours, d’improbables nouveautés y sont jouées, dont « i Froze Up » :
Thom y chante des paroles quasi-incompréhensibles par moment, d’une voix doucereuse et aiguë, en jouant au rhodes. Dans un premier temps, Thom Chante, puis en plein milieu de la chanson, le rythme de la musique et du chant chante… comme s’il y avait deux chansons en une, avant de reprendre sur le rythme du début.
On ne réentendra plus la chanson pendant 8 ans !
Dans une interview, Thom explique que la chanson, même si le groupe n’en a rien fait, résume l’état dans lequel ils étaient tous en 2000-2001 :

En 2005, le blog du groupe accueille une nouvelle rubrique “scrapbook”, avec des dessins postés de temps à autres. On y retrouvera le dessin de Thom que l’on peut voir un peu plus haut… Surement Radiohead a-t-il tenté à cette époque de réfléchir à nouveau à la chanson, puis a abandonné…

Mickael, webmaster du site citizeninsane, a obtenu un entretien avec Ed, à qui il pose des questions très pointues. Toutefois, on n’apprendra rien de plus à cette occasion sur ‘I froze Up’ :

Ed: “Yeah, we did do a version, Thom and I did a version of it. Or, we started it, and he was playing piano and I was playing some weird guitar stuff. And there were moments, but by that stage we were exhausted and we needed to get out of the studio.”
Michael: “So that was towards the end of the sessions…”

Thom Yorke surprend tout le monde en jouant à nouveau la chanson, seul au piano, dans un concert de charité en faveur du Green Party au Corn Exchange de Cambridge :

Thom joue pour la troisième fois la chanson lors d’un concert de son nouveau groupe « Atoms for Peace ». Il est, comme les autres fois, seul au piano, et annonce « un retour en arrière ». Il commence à la jouer, et ressent le besoin de la présenter un peu plus. Il explique au public qu’I froze Up date de l’époque Kid A :
