On a entendu la chanson pour la première fois lors de la webcast du 18 décembre 2002. C’était alors une sorte de petite ballade, jouée à la guitare acoustique, au nom de « Good Morning Mr Magpie ». ou « Good Morning Mi Lord »

Quelques messages laissés les jours précédents sur le Dead Air Space vont laisser penser que le groupe retravaille la chanson pendant les 6 jours passés au Hook End.

De retour en studio depuis le 19 septembre après la pause tant méritée dont ils parlaient dans leurs précédents posts, les membres de Radiohead en profitent pour informer le public en postant une photo du tableau des chanson répétées durant cette session.
Morning’ Mister Magpie y est indiquée en 6e position sous le titre « Morning Mi Lord ».

Autre preuve que la chanson est activement en gestation à cette époque, quelques lignes des futures paroles figurent au détour d’une illustration du calendrier 2006 du groupe :

En 2006 encore, sur www.radiohead.com, on trouvait des bibres de paroles :

Le groupe poste une nouvelle photo de tableau, celui des chansons qu’il répéte en studio avant de partie en tournée. « Morning Mi Lord » en fait partie… mais ne sera pas jouée en 2006 !

Un fan de Radiohead vient raconter sur le forum d’Ateaseweb la conversation qu’il a eue avec Thom Yorke juste après le concert de Montréal du 10 juin. On y apprend que le groupe a du mal à arranger la chanson.
