L’album « Hail To The Thief » sort en plusieurs éditions. Sur l’édition spéciale, enrichie d’artworks, on trouve ce texte, qui contient le titre « bodysnatchers ». On peut donc penser que la chanson était alors en gestation.

En 2004, on trouvait déjà quelques bribes de la chanson sur le site du groupe :

En fin 2005, quelques indices nous étaient donnés sur la chanson au détour d’une illustration du calendrier Radiohead à sortir…

Thom poste un message sur le blog du groupe, le Dead Air Space. Les dernières lignes sont des références à Bodysnatchers, que le groupe travaille certainement en répétition à l’époque :

Sur le Dead Air Space, le groupe poste une photo qui montre un tableau où sont notés les titres des chansons qu’ils ont répété pendant leur session du travail du 19 au 30 septembre. Bodysnatchers est le 5e titre. A côté du titre, on trouve ces indications « -> bassline/lyrics/synths vocoder »

Ed poste un message sur le Dead Air Space. Il explique que le groupe vient d’achever deux semaines d’enregistrement, et a priori, autant qu’il puisse en juger, « Bodysnatchers » est pas mal :
| Sat, 22 October the dogs have gone to bed friday night ……. the end of a two week session …….riffs and fragments of the songs going round my head …… its been great …. its always difficult to judge right now but i think we may have got ’bodysnatchers’ …… had a couple of sticky days at the beginning of the week but saw it through …. on a roll now ….. lots of stuff to be done yet, but so far so good…. the studio is fab, its so good to play in and listen…. you know what works and what doesn’t ….. the only problem is you will never hear what you do sound so good as the sound system is outrageous …. ths studio also sits on the edge of some beautiful woodland …. had a great ray mears moment in the wood today on a solitary walk when i came across some deer and hid behind a tree to watch them for a few minutes …… time to head off i’m really tired…. goodnight. La chanson est jouée pour la première fois par le groupe entier à Copenhague :
Le groupe va ensuite la jouer régulièrement en 2006, en testant deux version une courte, et une longue (moins fréquente), avec quelques paroles supplémentaires. La version de Copenhague ci-dessus est un exemple de la version longue avec les paroles suivantes :

Fin septembre 2007, au moment où le groupe a décidé de plaisanter avec son public, des messages codés sont apparus sur le dead air space, dont un (le 20 soyons précis !) qui laissait apparaître, une fois décodé, la phrase « blink your eyes », une des paroles de la chanson.

Aux Etats-Unis, le label ATO a choisi d’orienter sa promotion sur « Bodysnatchers ». Les radios ont reçu un CD promo de la chanson, et la statégie fonctionne bien, puisque la chanson se place au 10e rang des ventes au « Hot Modern Rock Tracks » !
La chanson atteindra même le 8e rang du classement Billboars des chansons alternatives le 23 février 2008 : http://www.billboard.com/#/charts/a…
Aucune autre chanson de Radiohead , depuis Creep en 1993 et sa troisième place dans ce classement, n’avait aussi bien marché aux Etats-Unis !
