Yamaha Upright U1 (Thom Yorke)
A priori, le groupe l’utilise depuis bien longtemps, mais il a commencé à être très sollicité vers 2000. Après le succès fou et la tournée démente d’OK Computer, le groupe, très attendu, prend une pause pour essayer de composer des nouveautés. Thom va s’enfermer dans une grande maison, avec un piano et un carnet où il note tout ce qui lui passe par la tête…

Le piano a fait son apparition sur scène en 2000, quand le groupe s’est mis à jouer pyramid song fréquemment, et You And Whose Army ? De même, il est depuis cette date utilisé pour Karma Police (au lieu du rhodes), de même que le Young Chang.
Il est utilisé d’abord par Jonny vers 2000 sur Karma Police et Life In a Glass house, lors de la seule version live de la chanson (jools 2001 vers 1:45), mais aussi en studio, par Thom et Jonny :

Lors des tournées de 2003, Thom jouait, avec face à lui une photo (que l’on voit ci dessous en tout petit) de Sid James (un acteur), habillé en roi, probablement tirée de Carry on Henry, dans le rôle de Henry Viii.
Il a été revendu, car abîmé, vers 2006, comme l’explique Plank, le technicien du groupe :
