On a longtemps entendu parler de la chanson avant de l’avoir réellement entendue, notamment de par le journal d’Ed qui montre que le groupe a longtemps travaillé sur la chanson, au point qu’elle aurait pu figurer sur Amnesiac. Finalement, elle sera une face-b. Certaines des paroles sont communes avec Myxomatosis.

Le groupe est passé à la phase de mixage sous l’impulsion de Nigel. La chanson fait alors 8 minutes et demi, et est pour le moment proposée en 5 ou 6 prises, dont une ou deux plaisent à Ed :

Il semblerait que la chanson ait été prévue pour figurer sur Amnesiac, du moins une anecdote le laisse penser : Bernard Lenoir, sur France Inter, dans l’émission du mardi 15 mai 2001 diffuse « Amnesiac » (qui ne doit sortir que le 4 juin 2001). Hilda (de chez WASTE) lui a remis une des premières copies, et c’est donc un « promo » qu’il tient entre les mains.
Au moment de lancer la neuvième piste, il annonce « hunting bears », mais les fans ne mettent pas longtemps à comprendre que ce n’est pas cette chanson qu’ils entendent (des enregistrements d’« hunting bears » avaient déjà filtré auparavant sur le net…)
C’est alors l’effervescence chez les fans, qui ne savent pas quel est le titre de cette chanson, qu’on désigne sous le nom de « tongue-tied » ou « cuttooth ». L’enregistrement fait le tour du web et tout le monde s’interroge.

Le présentateur ne manque pas de revenir sur l’anecdote de la chanson passée sur la radio française. Un peu géné, Thom interroge Nigel, dans le fond du studio, et assure qu’il ne s’agit pas d’une nouvelle chanson, mais bien de ’cuttooth’, qui ne sera qu’une face-B.
