Le ’gag order’ (à traduire par « un impératif de silence ») est une sorte de procédure juridique exceptionnelle propre aux anglo-saxons qui oblige, dans un cadre professionnel ou personnel à ne pas parler d’un sujet par décision de justice
Cette obligation a été imposée à Thom qui n’a pas aimé ça :

Dans le journal (ancêtre du blog) qu’il tient en ligne, Ed nous raconte les coulisses de l’enregistrement de chansons en 1999-2000 : Thom s’est pointé un jour en répétition (le 22 juillet 99, soyons précis !) et il a joué la chanson à la guitare acoustique aux autres, qui l’ont bien appréciée. Pendant quelques jours, ils l’ont un peu travaillée elle n’avait alors pas de nom officiel :

En 2008, le webmaster du site citizeninsane.eu interviewe Ed et lui pose des questions plutôt pointues sur les chansons. Pour ’gagging Order’, Ed expliquera qu’elle a été retravaillée en studio au printemps de l’année 2002, en même temps que les répétitons pour Hail To The Thief.

Ed: “2002… 2001, 2002?”
Michael: “OK. So then he brought that in and you added stuff to it, or was it just Thom?”
Ed: “‘I Am A Wicked Child’… Jonny added some harmonica. ‘Gagging Order’ was Thom and Jonny.” [/quote]
