Pour un article du magazine Mojo, Thom est appelé à citer ses goûts du moment, et en musique, on retrouve Faust, un groupe de krautrock allemand, dans la veine de Can ou de Neu!, deux grandes influences de Radiohead.

Le lien de Faust avec la chanson est évident dans son titre. Le groupe a voulu rendre hommage en faisant sonner sa chanson comme un arpège de guitare du groupe Faust.
Mais Faust ? Ca appelle peut-être chez vous une autre référence, celle du mythe de Faust… eh bien ce n’est pas de ce côté là qu’il faut chercher, et Thom le confirme lui même :

Sur le site radiohead.com, apparait la page intitulée ’K I N G R A T’. On y trouve des bribes, qui à cette époque ne faisaient pas vraiment sens, qui donneront naissance bien plus tard à « worryworth » et à « Faust Art » (en particulier « dead from the neck down », qui fait furieusement penser au « dead from the neck up » de faust arp).

Faust Arp en est la sixième piste.

Adam Buxton et Garth Jennings filment Thom et Jonny, interprétant au soir, en plein milieu de la campagne (Wittenham Clumpsn dans l’Oxfordshire) une version de ’Faust Arp’ pour laquelle il s’y reprenne à plusieurs fois. La vidéo est diffusée lors de la webcast du lendemain.

Pour Mojo, Thom décrit son procédé créatif pour les nouvelles chansons. On apprend ainsi que pour Faust Arp, il y a eu un très long moment d’écriture-réécriture… :
