CV :
nom : Thomas Edward Yorke né le 7 octobre 1968 à Wellingborough, Northamptonshire marié à Rachel Owen (rencontrée à la fac à Exeter !), deux enfants : Noah et Agnes Mair.

> son parcours :
scolarité : Thom a fait ses études à l’Abingdon School, puis après avoir obtenu son diplôme, il est rentré à l’université d’Exeter, où il a étudié pendant un an l’anglais et l’Art.

les petits boulots qu’il a faits : Thom a été vendeur quelques temps dans un magasin de fringues, mais il ne s’entendait pas du tout avec le patron, comme en témoigne certaines de ces chansons.... Il a aussi été le temps de ses études DJ dans un club d’Exeter, apparemment il aurait gagné une petite réputation due au choix quelque peu étonnant, mais génial, des disques qu’il diffusait. A noter aussi qu’il a travaillé dans un hôpital psychiatrique.

les groupes dans lesquels il a joué : Thom a commencé à s’illustrer jeune, puisqu’à 12 ans, il écrivait sa première chanson ’mushroom clouds’, qui parlait de ce à quoi avait du ressembler les explosions atomiques, mais pas du tout de ses effets. 
A 13 ans, il formait son premier groupe, avec un ami. Lui jouait de la guitare, pendant que l’ami détruisait une télévision.. drôle de concept ! Il devient le chanteur (pas par conviction mais parce que personne d’autre ne voulait s’y coller) du groupe de lycée : TNT, un groupe aux influences Punk, dans lequel on retrouve déjà Colin Greenwood...
A propos de comment il est devenu chanteur, il a déclaré : "I Started singing into this little stereo mike tied to the end of a broomstick handle. Everyone just started falling about laughing, and that was that (...) that was my introduction to singing".

Le groupe TNT a tenté de se développer, de créer des chansons, mais les personnalités trop différentes de chacun ont contribué à mettre un terme au projet. en 1987, il forme son propre groupe : On a Friday, embryon du futur Radiohead.

Le temps de ses études à l’université d’Exeter, quand il est loin des autres membres d’On A friday, il joue quelque temps dans le groupe techno Flickernoise, et dans le groupe Headless Chickens

En 1997

Fin décembre, le magazine Mojo a interrogé Thom et Colin concernant leur goûts musicaux du moment.
Thom : « Five of my favorite records from this year : Laika, ’sounds of the satellites’. They toured with us and deserve more recognition ; ’Portishead’ by Portishead. This is their second album. It is better than the first. I love them... Lee ’Scratch’ Perry’s ’Arkology’. This counts doesn’t it ? My favourite thing is listening to it while looking at photos of the studio before it burnt down. Guided By Voices, ’Mag Earwhig’. The only band who have sussed recording and are happy to make things as long as my limited attention span will allow. Reminds me of Pixies’ ’Surfer Rosa’. Also D^r Octagon, ’Octagynecologist’. Blue flowers is my favourite song of this year. Not sure about the sex stuff, but the rhymes shit all over the lyrics I’ve written. »
